James Cameron’s Avatar is a massive success. The sci-fi action film has made over 1 billion dollars and become the second highest grossing movie of all time. And with commercial success has come critical acclaim. This week, the director collected two Golden Globes and further awards look likely.
But not everyone is enamoured by the Weta-shaped 3D blockbuster. The Vatican has denounced the nature-worship of the film, while others have come out saying Avatar is anti-American and even racist. Jason looks at some of central themes of the film and asks, does it live up to the hype?
